Icelandic Folk Songs is a music-theatre work featuring twelve arrangements by Atli Ingólfsson of traditional Icelandic songs: six for soloist and instrumental trio, and six for choir (performed here by a vocal quartet). Together they form a continuous narrative thread, led by soloist Hanna Dóra Sturludóttir through storytelling, and enriched by the movements and vocal ornamentation of the quartet and instrumentalists.
At the centre of the work stands one of the most striking ghost stories from Jón Árnason’s collection, Parthúsa-Jón.
