The Icelandic baritone Jóhann Kristinsson is a recipient of numerous awards. This year, he received the Icelandic Music Prize as "Classical Singer of the Year." He won the prestigious singing competition "Stella Maris," where he also received the Jury Prize of the Vienna Musikverein, and he placed third and won the Audience Award at the International Singing Competition "Das Lied" in Heidelberg. Additionally, he was a finalist at the International Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau.
He completed his Master's degree with distinction in the class of Prof. Scot Weir at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin. Furthermore, he gained musical inspiration from Thomas Quasthoff, Júlia Várady, Thomas Hampson, Deborah Polaski, and Graham Johnson, among others. From 2017 to 2019, he was a member of the Opera Studio at the Hamburg State Opera and has been a regular guest there ever since.
The artist has worked with renowned conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt, Bertrand de Billy, Kent Nagano, Sir András Schiff, and Sylvain Cambreling. He has performed at the Heidelberger Frühling, Oxford Lieder Festival, Martha Argerich Festival, Dresden Music Festival, and Schubertiade Hohenems, among others. He has also collaborated with prestigious orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, International Bach Academy Stuttgart, Copenhagen Phil, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Basque National Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, and the Bamberg Symphony.
