NJYD is pioneering new artistic concert formats that blend genres and art forms. The quartet operates at the intersection of composed music, performance, improvisation, and multimedia. Their unconventional instrumentation—flute, saxophone, guitar, and percussion—serves as the foundation for experiments that lead to entirely new sound expressions. Comprising four award-winning classically trained soloists, NJYD delivers their performances in unconventional settings, reaching a young audience.

Their debut album, “NJYD,” was released in 2023, featuring works composed specifically for the quartet. NJYD has produced and performed a series of performance pieces:

Over two seasons, 2018/2019 and 2019/2020, NJYD produced the concert series NJYD.NYT.NORDISK, featuring collaborations with Nordic ensembles and numerous composers and sound artists. NJYD is actively involved in the compositional pipeline and has been Artists in Residence at SPOR New Music School since 2018, where they coach young composers. Additionally, NJYD has delivered lectures at conservatories in Krakow and Torshavn.

MEMBERS:

ANJA NEDREMO is a Norwegian saxophonist currently employed as a saxophone instructor at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus/Aalborg, where she made her solo debut in 2018. She has furthered her education at the Konservatorium Wien and the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona.

In addition to her involvement with NJYD, Anja is a member of the Jór Saxophone Quartet and Aksiom. She has also performed as a soloist with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and the Randers Chamber Orchestra. Anja is sponsored by the Japanese saxophone manufacturer Forestone Saxophone and has received several awards, including the Harby Fund Grant, the Léonie

Sonning Music Foundation Talent Prize, and the Ticon Award.

JONAS WEITLING is a highly sought-after percussionist who frequently performs with the country›s symphony orchestras. In 2013, he made a solo appearance with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. Besides his involvement with NJYD, Jonas is a member of the percussion duo Percuphonic Duo.

Jonas Weitling is a graduate of the soloist class at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus/Aalborg, with additional education from the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg. He also teaches percussion at Viborg Kulturskole and the MGK (Music Preparatory Courses).

MIKKEL EGELUND is a guitarist with a broad repertoire, which he has expanded with a number of new commissioned works. he performs solo, as a soloist with orchestras, and with ensembles such as aros guitar duo, cras guitar sextet, and kottos. mikkel has also appeared on danish television and german national radio.

In 2013 he won the 1st prize at the prestigious London International Guitar Competition. He is a recipient of hte Léonie Sonnin Music Foundation Talent Prize. Egelund has studied at the Hochsschule für Musik und Tanz, Köln, The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and Aarhus/ Aalborg.

MARIE SØNDERSKOV is a versatile flutist and performer. She has premiered works by electronic composers in the USA, Japan, and Europe. In 2019, Marie’s own composition, “Saltøje,” for 25 flutes, was performed at the Nebraska Crossroads Music Festival in the USA.

In 2015, she received the Harby Fund Grant and performed as a soloist with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. Marie is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus/Aalborg and has studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo.
