The fundraiser is going really well! We have found a piano, and we are now only around ISK 200,000 away from reaching our goal!

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Reykjavík Opera Days, we are launching a fundraiser to purchase a new or second-hand piano for Iceland’s opera and music theatre community.Members of the community frequently perform at Tjarnarbíó, but at present the theatre does not have a good piano – only an old and rather tired instrument owned by Reykjavík Opera Days. It has served us, and many others, very well over the years, but it has simply sung its last note and handed in its resignation. So the time has come to find a new instrument.

If the amount raised exceeds the cost of the instrument itself, a piano stool and transportation, the remaining funds will go entirely towards a dedicated fund for the tuning and maintenance of the piano.

The official owner and caretaker of the instrument will be Reykjavik Opera Days.

The fundraiser will be transparent and all figures will be published on the Reykjavík Opera Days website once the campaign has ended.

**Update regarding the revised wording of the fundraiser***

We have clarified the arrangements surrounding the fundraiser. The piano currently at Tjarnarbíó is owned by Reykjavík Opera Days and the aim of this campaign is to find a better instrument.

Reykjavík Opera Days will own the new piano and will be responsible for its upkeep and maintenance. Our hope is that, just like the old piano, the new instrument will be available for use by as many members of the opera and music theatre community as possible.
