Helgi Rafn Ingvarsson

Helgi Rafn Ingvarsson (MMus/MPhil) is an Icelandic composer and conductor. He will finish his DMus doctorate research degree studies at Guildhall, School of Music and Drama in London in 2017. His research focus is 'Narrative-flexibility and collective creativity in new opera' by combination of e.g. south-east Asian folk music and 20th century scoring techniques. Helgi´s original music has been described by renowned Icelandic music critic Jónas Sen to have “a strong personal style” which “echoes the past” but with a completely unique inspiration. Helgi has led and conducted the Icelandic Choir of London since 2012 and was made the associate music director of Euphonia Opera in 2016. His album Castle in Air of original string music will be made available on his website and other streaming services in spring 2016.
