Glimpses of Jóhann G. Jóhannsson's music - in celebration of his 70th birthday!

The chamber choir Cantoque Ensemble will perform Jóhann's choral songs set to poetry by Nobel Prize winner, Halldór Laxness. Two of Jóhann's brand new pieces will be premiered at the concert: a duo for soprano and tenor saxophone, to a poem by Dagur Sigurðarson, performed by Ragnheiður Ingunn Jóhannsdóttir and Sigurður Flosason - and his new suite for strings, "From Löngumýri to Piran", played by the string players of Camerarctica. We will also hear Jóhann's arrangements for alto saxophone and strings of a medley of tunes by the Italian film composer Nino Rota from Fellini's movies.

The concert is held with the support of the Iceland Music Fund and in collaboration with the Reykjavík Opera Days. Last autumn, two works by Jóhann were premiered at the Reykjavík Opera Days; his chamber piece "Kall", set to the poem by Þorvaldur Þorsteinsson, and his musical adventure "Tumi goes to the moon", with his own original text.

Concert in the Harpa's Northern Lights Recital Hall on Saturday, October 25th 2025, at 8 PM.

Estimated concert length: 60 minutes.
