Hedvig Jalhed

Swedish soprano Hedvig Jalhed is a graduate (Master of Fine Arts) from Malmö Academy of Music, Lund University, and The University College of Opera in Stockholm. Besides her work as indie opera singer and artistic director, she is currently pursuing a PhD in performance practice at the Academy of Music and Drama, Gothenburg University from the autumn 2016, with a research project about ludo-immersive chamber opera. She has sung solo parts with orchestras such as Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester, Helsingborgs Symfoniorkester and Gävle Symfoniorkester, and has appeared in operatic roles with Hurra Barockorkester and at Confidencen, Ulriksdals slottsteater. In 2009, she made her debut at The Royal Opera in Stockholm in Tchaikovsky’s Pique Dame and was seen as one of the main characters in the operatic movie Hotell Opera in Swedish national TV (SVT). During 2010 she was employed as a soloist at Malmö Opera. She has received a number of scholarships, for example from The Royal Swedish Academy of Music and 2012 Halmstad Municipality’s Cultural Scholarship. In 2010, she founded the experimental opéra nouveau company Operation Opera in Halmstad, which produces at least one new fringe opera a year for the audience in the region of Halland and on tours. She has been appointed artistic director of Halland Opera & Vocal Festival since 2013 and has many years of experience in artistic and cultural management.
