Jóhann Kristinsson

Icelandic Baritone, Jóhann Kristinsson is a recipient of numerous awards. He won the main prize at the Stella Maris Vocal Competition in September 2019 and received the Jury Award from Wiener Musikverein. He also won the third prize and audience prize at the International Vocal Competition "Das Lied" in Heidelberg and reached the finals in the Robert Schumann Competition. Jóhann studied with Prof. Scot Weir at the „Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler” in Berlin and graduated with a masters degree in 2017 with distinction.

During his studies, he received guidance from Thomas Quasthoff, Júlia Várady, Thomas Hampson, Graham Johnson, Deborah Polaski and Giacomo Aragall. He was a member of the International Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera until 2019 and has since then been a regular guest at the house. Jóhann has worked with prominent conductors, such as Herbert Blomstedt, Bertrand de Billy, Kent Nagano, Sylvain Cambreling and Sir András Schiff. He has performed with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Copenhagen Philharmonic, Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, the Basque National Orchestra, at the Icelandic Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Halle and the Bamberg Symphony. He has performed at festivals such as Heidelberger Frühling Music Festival, the Schubertiade in Hohenems, Oxford Lieder Festival and the Dresden Music Festival.
