NOC and Ragnheiður receive rave reviews in Herning

A packed house – and still more wanted in

The Nordic Opera Choir’s concert with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra received a six-star review from critic Kurt H. Jørgensen in Herning Folkeblad on Monday, 31 August.

On Saturday, 31 October, the choir will take the stage at Norðurljós in Harpa together with the ELJA Chamber Ensemble, conducted by Ragnheiður Ingunn Jóhannsdóttir, to perform the same programme. The Nordic Opera Choir brings together 30 Nordic singers, including six from Iceland. Tickets are now on sale.

The review in the Danish newspaper also read: Around 100 artists filled the stage: the full Aarhus Symphony Orchestra together with the Nordic Opera Choir. From the very first note, the hall was filled with power, beautiful sound and vibrant energy

The magnificent choral and orchestral works on the programme came fully to life – from explosive drama to lyrical beauty. The Aarhus Symphony Orchestra made the hall resonate, while the voices of the Nordic Opera Choir filled it with both power and intimacy. There was something both monumental and delicate about the music – beautiful, thrilling and deeply moving all at once.

At the heart of it all stood conductor **Ragnheiður Ingunn Jóhannsdóttir**, brimming with energy and seeming almost to dance her way through the music. She conducted the large ensemble with her whole body, a keen eye and remarkable musical sensitivity, bringing together the forces on stage with extraordinary ease and precision.”

The Nordic Opera Choir is a collaborative project between Herning Opera Festival, Reykjavík Opera Days and Nordic Song Festival in Trollhättan, Sweden. The choir was founded in 2023 on the initiative of Herning Opera Festival and Den Jyske Sangskole. Its aim is to give young professional singers and advanced university-level voice students the opportunity to work together in a professional setting, build and strengthen connections across the Nordic region, and gain valuable professional experience. The Nordic Opera Choir is generously supported by the A.P.
