Elsa G. Björnsdóttir is a deaf actor, director, and poet with a long and diverse career. With an education spanning Sign-Language studies, theater and film-making, she has worked as a interpreter from Icelandic to Icelandic Sign-Language and a Sign-language teacher since 1990.
She starred in a variety of movies since 1983 and started directing in 2015 with two award-winning short films. She has taught Sign-Language linguistics at the University of Iceland, and hosted workshops to teach Deaf people to perform Visual Vernacular in the summers of 2022 and 2023. She is the main sign-language composer of the project and performs her compositions on stage.
