Margrét Hrafnsdóttir, a Reykjavik native, is a captivating vocalist whose journey through the world of music has been pretty extensive. Trained under the tutelage of renowned mentors at the Reykjavik Conservatory of Music and the prestigious Stuttgart Musikhochschule, Margrét honed her craft with luminaries such as Sieglinde Kahmann, Takanashi, Francisco Araiza, and Robert Hiller.
Her dedication and talent have been recognized on numerous occasions, earning her a coveted scholarship from the Richard Wagner Verband to attend the Bayreuth music festival. This experience culminated in a mesmerizing solo concert in Stuttgart, showcasing her remarkable vocal prowess and deep connection to the music.
Margrét's thirst for musical excellence led her to participate in acclaimed Masterclasses led by illustrious figures such as Christoph Pregardien, Elly Ameling, Anne Sofie von Otter, Gitta-Maria Sjöberg, Matti, and Mette Borg. Her passion and commitment have been further demonstrated through grants and scholarships enabling her to organize and perform in captivating concerts across Europe, including Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Iceland, Sweden, and Denmark, collaborating with a diverse array of talented musicians.
With her rich lyric-spinto soprano, her repertoire ranges the roles of Puccinis heroines such as Manon and Turandot to Maddalena in Andrea Chenier by Giordano and Strauss´s Salome.
She made a captivating interpretation of Freyja in Jón Ásgeirsson's Icelandic opera, "Þrymskviða” which has a significantly high tessetura.
Margrét's musical journey extends beyond the stage, as evidenced by her collaborative efforts with cellist Ólöf Sigursveinsdóttir in the enchanting CD "Hjartahljóð", featuring Icelandic folk songs. Furthermore, her close collaboration with composer Ingibjörg Azima has resulted in the creation of transcendent works such as the acclaimed CD "Vorljóð á Ýli". Excitingly, Last October a release of the CD “LOGN” on the esteemed Dutch label Odradek-Record promises to showcase her versatility and artistry as a soloist in contemporary chamber music, marking yet another milestone in her illustrious career.
