Thomas Hammel

Thomas Hammel is a french linguist who specializes in Sign-Languages. He graduated with a master’s degree from PSL Research University in cognitive science in 2019, where he studied such things as sign-language phonology and semantics applied to music. He moved to Iceland after graduating, participated in a project to map the phonemes of Icelandic Sign-Language, and has taught Sign-Language phonetics and phonology at the University of Iceland.

With his other professional interest in teaching and education, he is passionate about finding new ways to connect cultures and people. Although a long-time music amateur, he made his debut as a director in the first installment of Look at the Music, during Óperudagar 2022. He is the director of the project, and the president of Art Across.
